Overview
The B.A. in English provides students with a varied and thorough undergraduate education in the field of English. Students may, if desired, choose to focus on secondary teacher preparation, technical writing, or preparation for graduate and professional schools. The curriculum offers course work in the following areas:

- Sigma Tau Delta
Sigma Tau Delta, also known as the International English Honor Society, was founded in 1924 by Dr. Judson Q. Owen at Dakota Wesleyan College. The purpose of the organization is to recognize "undergraduates, graduates, and scholars in academia as well as professional writers who have recognized accomplishments in linguistic or literary realms of the English language."
- Modern Language Association
Founded in 1883, the Modern Language Association of America provide its members with opportunities to share their scholarly findings and teaching experiences with colleagues, as well as discuss trends in the academy. MLA members host an annual convention, along with other meetings, work with related organizations, and sustain one of the finest publishing programs in the field. For more than a century, members have worked to strengthen the study and teaching of both language and literature.
- Multimedia Foreign Language Lab
This lab is designed to ensure the accessibility of learning a second language to our students. The lab has advanced interactive language software that can assist students in courses such as Spanish, German, and French. The Multimedia Foreign Language Lab is located in the computer labs in the O.A. Grant Building, rooms 208 and 209.
Learning Outcomes
- Provide a key component in the education of undergraduate students by offering courses in Composition, Literature, foreign language instruction in Spanish and French, as well as support courses in Technical Writing.
- Provide assistance to students who struggle with writing.
- Provide specializations in English, Technical Writing, and Spanish for those seeking the Bachelor of Arts degree with or without Secondary Teacher Certification, as well as provide effective academic advising and assistance.
- Provide courses that will lead to either a minor or concentration in English, Spanish, or Technical Writing for all degree seeking students, as well as concentrations in English or Spanish for those pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies.
- Provide a sound program of advanced study leading to the Master of Arts degree in English with both thesis and non-thesis tracks.
- Provide opportunities for intellectual, literary, and cultural enrichment, along with the promotion of international understanding and involvement for both students and faculty.
- Provide service to both the university and community while offering students and faculty members opportunities to participate in public service
