B.S. in Exercise & Sport Physiology

Overview

The Exercise & Sport Physiology program provides advanced education and training in exercise physiology, applied sport physiology, and clinical physiology according to the standards and guidelines established by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), and the Committee on Accreditation for the Exercise Sciences (CoAES). Students learn from field experts, practitioners, and research scientists in managing programs to assess, design, and implement physical activity, exercise, and behavioral interventions to enhance health, functional capacity, and quality of life.

Exercise & Sport Physiology Program Benefits

  • Strong foundation for pre-professional health programs (medical, physical therapy, occupational therapy)
  • Hands-on laboratory experiences in anatomy, physiology, and exercise science
  • Access to human performance and physiology labs
  • Faculty mentorship with expertise in health and exercise sciences
  • Internship and research opportunities in clinical and wellness settings
  • Preparation for graduate and professional school pathways

More About the Program

The Health and Human Physiology program provides students with a strong scientific foundation combined with practical application in laboratory and clinical environments. Students have opportunities to engage in research projects, internships, and collaborative learning experiences that enhance their understanding of human health and performance. Faculty bring expertise from a variety of areas such as exercise physiology, biomechanics, cardiovascular health, and metabolic disease. Small class sizes allow for personalized instruction and mentorship, supporting student success in both academic and professional pursuits. Students pursuing pre-professional tracks receive guidance in preparing for entrance exams, application processes, and prerequisite coursework required for graduate and professional schools. The program also encourages involvement in student organizations and professional development activities related to health sciences. Graduates are well-positioned for employment in health and wellness industries or for continued education in advanced health professions.

Learning Outcomes

  • Students will understand human physiology, exercise physiology, and clinical exercise physiology principles and applications as it relates to health, disease, chronic conditions, and risk factors.
  • Students will understand the benefits and risks associated with physical activity/exercise and the detrimental effects of inactivity, sedentary behaviors, and unhealthy lifestyles.
  • Students will have the ability to evaluate and integrate emerging scientific evidence on cardiopulmonary, metabolic, and chronic disease applications in allied health, exercise prescription,
