Why Tarleton State?

The Doctorate of Occupational Therapy program at Tarleton State University offers an innovative, clinical-first curriculum designed to prepare students for leadership in any healthcare environment. Our eight-semester cohort model balances advanced clinical courses with specialty electives, challenging students to create, innovate, and advocate for accessibility.

Versatile Clinical Excellence

While our program is rooted in the fundamental sciences of occupational therapy, we focus on preparing graduates for a broad spectrum of practice. From metropolitan hospitals and specialized rehab facilities to school-based therapy and private clinics, our students graduate with the skills to engage confidently in interdisciplinary teams.

The Rural Health Advantage

A key pillar of our program is a specialized focus on rural healthcare. This doesn’t mean you are limited to rural practice; rather, it means you develop a unique level of resourcefulness and clinical autonomy. You will learn to navigate the complexities of community-based care and telehealth—competencies that are increasingly vital in urban and suburban healthcare systems.

Leadership and Advocacy

The Tarleton OTD program goes beyond the clinic. We prepare you for scholarly and leadership roles, teaching you how to advocate for patient participation and systemic change. Whether you aspire to be a clinical trainer, researcher, or healthcare administrator, you will have the foundation to lead.
