Communication studies is a vast and diverse field that is integral to every industry. With an emphasis on hands-on learning and student engagement, our bachelor’s degree in communication studies offers a broad view of communication in a number of different contexts, from mass media communication to interpersonal communication.

Courses

Our curriculum is designed to support each student’s individual talents, interests and goals through specialized and engaging coursework. Explore topics such as interpersonal communication, crisis communication, broadcast journalism, digital video production, environmental communication, travel and tourism, persuasion, social media strategies and more.

Many courses include a service-learning component to get involved with and give back to the Texas community. For example, in Group Process, Decision Making, undergraduate students have developed plans for a community clothing closet to support those in need of clothes or shoes.

Learning Outcomes

Productive, competent and motivated, our students majoring in communication studies are well-prepared for their first job, as well as a long and rewarding career in any industry, such as media, government, business, nonprofit and education. While earning your bachelor’s degree, you will build a portfolio or resume of work you’ve done to demonstrate your knowledge and skills in your chosen field, from journalism and broadcasting to sports communication to public relations and event management.

Many communication studies majors continue on to graduate programs, such as Tarleton’s graduate certificate or MS in Communication Studies.

Admissions Requirements

Only the Public Relations and Social Engagement and the Travel, Event, and Activity Management concentrations are offered at the Fort Worth Location.
